Here’s a dream that’s fairly common that comes from Rita in Tennessee:
I was a teenager and was taking a public speaking class. I was next in line to do my speech at the podium. When I walked up to the podium, I was naked, and I had no teeth! I did my speech, all the while thinking this is only a dream, and I’m not really naked and toothless in front of all these people. But, while speaking I was still very aware of being naked and toothless.
Worse yet, I woke up drenched in sweat, and so afraid, like it really happened! I don’t remember what the audience did. –Rita from Tennessee
Thanks for your entry Rita. Hmmm. This one is interesting, and common, believe it or not.
The Analysis
You (Rita) are re-living a former fear of performance anxiety. You’re rationalizing to yourself logically that this is just a dream.
What makes this interesting is yes, it’s a dream, but you’re not relaxing your mind even at rest! You’re over analyzing your fears!
The first fear is about being inadequate for your peers- not measuring up to the standards they all keep.
The second fear is that you’re afraid of what you might say, or have a slip up and say something that is bad or will cause harm to yourself or others.
Third fear is you feel unsupported, unprotected and exposed around others, in your group relationships.
Now… you’re aware of feeling unsupported, exposed and unprotected, but you have no outlet, no method to correct this, because you’re afraid to speak up!
These fears, regardless of your rational thinking are very real to you and are tiring you out in both your awakened life and your sleep.
And…clearly this isn’t about your peers, or there would be some relating activities with them.
The Solution
First, you can easily solve your feelings of being unsupported, unprotected and exposed by participating less in groups for a while, and see how you feel.
Second, refrain from hanging out with others that gossip or talk down about others, and don’t do that yourself.
You may have been afraid to slip away from these friends for fear of what they might think.
However, it’s what you think that counts (as far as your dream is saying, by virtue of the audience’s non-participation).
So, shift your thinking back to you, and not around what others think, spend less time with the group of friends, and see what happens!
This was fun, keep those dreams coming!
And Sweet Dreams till next time!
Peace.
